Disney and Universal - five of our best.

Disney World and Universal Studios Florida are both fun, family resorts with rides for the whole family. In the great eclectic mix of rides, some stand out as absolute thrillers that can make your heart drop into your stomach.

So check out our top five choices for rides that’ll get your heart pumping:

5. Universal Studios Rip Ride Rockit

Customize your ride experience with this jukebox style ride, pick and choose any song to suit your mood as you roll through unexpected twists and turns. A world-first non-inverting loop complete the thrills on this 17-story high exciting roller coaster. The perfect coaster for those who are getting over the fear of the big rides, it’s a fun one to ride again and again.

4. Disney World’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

The suspense and foreboding you’ll feel in the queue is enough to get your heart pumping in anticipation. The ride itself has exciting effects, total darkness, and multiple freefall drops, ups and downs, and the feeling of losing your stomach. What separates it from other freefall rides is Disney’s always fantastic use of storytelling and creation of an immersive world.

3. Disney World’s Mission: SPACE

This high thrill ride transports you to the future from the very moment you enter the queue. Metallic details, scapecraft training pods, and more entice and excite you before the ride begins. Once on the spacecraft, the centrifugal G-Force of the simulator and the full screen view of outer space is almost too good, jarring you back in your seat. You’ll be surprised when you step out and realize you haven’t actually been to Mars and back!

2. Universal Studios The Incredible Hulk Coaster

Transport yourself into the world of Bruce Banner, the big roller coaster is an experiment gone wrong where you are quickly jumped to top speed and transformed into the raging Hulk. The coaster takes you from 0 to 40 mph in two seconds flat, so be prepared to get sucked into the back of your seat, and that’s just the beginning!

1. Universal Studios Revenge of the Mummy

Fireballs, swarming beetles, warrior mummies, and a completely enclosed roller coaster give this thrill ride top marks. Trying to escape the curse of Imhotep, the ride plummets you into total darkness, whipping you around and avoiding the frights at every turn. I won’t spoil it for you, but the ending is one you won't see coming!

Fishing off of the Gulf Coast Shores

Visitors from around the world flock to Florida’s sunny shores each year. With miles of pearly, soft sand, amazing emerald waters on the Gulf of Mexico and glassy Atlantic waters on the other side, this is a beach playground. Theme parks keep kids (and adults) thrilled. However- lots of visitors miss a vacation thrill- the great fishing.

The waters surrounding Florida’s Gulf Coast are teeming with fish. Pompano, Red Drum and Flounder can be found close to the shores. Further out, on the reefs, anglers will love catching Red Snapper and Amberjack. The deep waters hold Wahoo, Marlin and Tuna- the ‘big-fight’ fish. With opportunities to catch these guys from the shores, in kayaks and trolling boats, and deep-sea charters, this is a fisherman’s Mecca.

Pensacola Florida is the perfect place to plan your vacation fishing trip. The family will love the baby-powder-soft sands of these beaches. Pensacola has a beautiful historic district, a naval museum where the kids will enjoy seeing war planes suspended from the ceilings and, of course, The Blue Angels. Mom and dad will enjoy a plethora of restaurants with fresh seafood and steaks. And the anglers will be in heaven standing in the surf, rods at the ready, to haul in the big one.

Clearwater Beach is a world-famous beach. Here the water is clear, warm and gradually deepens, making it perfect for families. The also-famous Pier 60 is located here. Families can grab their gear, rods, bait and snacks in the little store. Then walk out the pier and try to snag a tarpon or Snook. At sunset, enjoy local artist selling their wares on the pier. Lights along the pier bring the fish in at night, searching for food. Anglers can easily haul in 20-pounders.

Fort Myers Beach is the hotspot for Spring Break. College kids, sun, sand and bikinis. Sand art competitions bring world-class competitors who sculpt castles, dragons and more. Fish the shores for Cobia and Spanish mackerel and Amberjacks. Go offshore for grouper, shark and barracuda.

Naples, Florida is the place to catch sharks, redfish, tarpons and grouper along the coast and in the bays. Go out deep into the Gulf of Mexico for huge tarpons ranging from 60 to 100 pounds and more. Blue and white marlin, sailfish and Mahi Mahi are always ready to give anglers a fight. Naples backwaters team with sharks during the warm months. Blacktip, lemon and bull sharks all troll the waters, looking for food and maybe a good fight.

A few lucky captains are permitted to fish the largest mangrove forest in the Everglades National Forest. Here, among the tangled roots of the mangrove, nurse sharks, huge bull sharks and lemon sharks wait to see if you are brave enough to catch them. Bring the family and enjoy all that Florida has to offer. Theme parks, historic districts, amazing waters and fantastic fishing; the people at Charter Travel can make your vacation dreams come to life.

The Beauty of Sanibel Florida

Sea shells. Gorgeous shells- so many that a museum on the island is dedicated to them. An ancient light house. Sand and places for quiet solitude. Welcome to Sanibel Island off the gulf coast of Florida.

Sanibel Island is the ‘Cinderella’ of Florida. No high-rises will block your views of the ocean, or sunsets. Here you can enjoy walking along the beach, gathering shells and shark’s teeth without the noise of bars and nightlife spoiling the peaceful atmosphere.

25-miles of bike paths are perfect for families to travel. Billy’s Bikes and Rentals can equip families with beach bikes, bikes with kid carts, and even unique covered surry bikes that the whole family can pedal together. Most of the bike paths go parallel to roads and they lead to beaches, cemeteries and the lighthouse. There are water fountains along the paths and bike racks, too. This makes it extremely easy to lock your bike up and then hike off to explore, to eat, or to swim.

If you would rather be on the water, explore Sanibel Island in a kayak. Paddle along the D.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Here, you can see alligators and manatees in the bay. At low-tide, lots of water birds feast among the mangroves and pick along the shores for crabs and other shell fish. Explore the point of Sanibel Island to see the lighthouse, ospreys and their nest atop poles and trees, and cranes in the shallow sandbars.

Sanibel Island has a great reputation for sea shells of all kinds. The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum houses all kinds of shell displays, not just shells from Florida. The kids will enjoy the scavenger hunt through the museum. Adults will enjoy learning about the various shells. All ages will see Sailor Valentines, made from shells and brought to sweethearts from around the world. See art like flower arrangements made from shells. This place will bring new life to your own shell-hunting adventures.

Of course, most visitors to Gulf Coast of Florida are looking for beaches. Sanibel Island does not disappoint visitors. Blind Pass Beach is ‘paved’ with shells. Scoop them by the bucketful, then sift through them for the ones you will prize. Bowman’s Beach is only accessible by foot. Hike over a trail through the cool forest to this beach. Restrooms, a playground and grills make this quiet beach worth the walk.

Speaking of grills, when you get hungry, take the family to eat at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille. Here guests will enjoy conch chowder, Yucatan shrimp and drinks like Rowdy Razorbacks and Sanibel Sunsets. Or you can try the Sanibel Café for some great breakfast options.

Staying on Sanibel Island is easy. Condos, hotels and beach cottages wait for visitors to arrive. why not do our Disney and Cape Coral twin centre holiday Trust the knowledgeable staff at Charter Travel to take care of all of your vacation needs in Florida. Accommodations, fishing charters, restaurant reservations and bike rentals, Charter Travel can handle it. All you do is relax and enjoy.

Holidays in Naples

Culture, fine-dining, antique shops— these are things of you will find on your Naples, Florida holidays.

Located on the southwestern gulf-side of Florida, Naples is a refined city. It is also the point of access to the Everglades and outer islands. Beaches and shopping complete the picture of this city jewel.

Art lovers will enjoy Random Acts of Art, HW gallery and von Liebig Art Gallery. Stroll through, buy a few items that fit your fancy, and just enjoy the works of quirky, creative minds. See the Naples Theater or watch a production by the Naples Players. This is the place where art in all forms comes alive.

For shopping, everyone knows you go to Fifth Avenue. Fifth Avenue South, that is. Naples version of Rodeo Drive, this long stretch of shops hosts designer names, ice cream shops, limos and shady sitting benches. Spend the day (and lots of money) here along the stretch. Grab lunch with the girls or people-watch.

If you and your family prefer quiet, Florida wildlife, enjoy one of the sanctuaries. Wind along wooden paths through Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. See cypress trees, air plants and alligators all in their natural setting. Or, take a tranquil stroll into Naples Botanical Gardens. Waterfalls, garden ponds and dinosaurs (yes, you read that right) all come together in this peaceful retreat.

Of course, Naples has that most important of Florida vacation elements…the beach. Enjoy kayaking, cruising, or jetpacks in the emerald waters. Lowdermilk beach has sparkling white sand, outdoor showers, and places to eat, along with the gorgeous waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Sailing, fishing, and riding the jet skis will also keep the family happy for days on end.

For those who want to stay dry, The Naples Zoo, LaPlaya Golf Course and Naples Bicycle Tours will have you out in the sun, but not in the water. Explore the city on a bike and see places like the Celebration Community Beach Church. Here, the beach is the church. There is no building. Bring your lawn chair and your flip flops for some Florida-style religion.

Have you and your family worked up an appetite? Try the Rumba Cuban Café for some steak and onions and fried plantains, or some fried yucca with garlic sauce- yum! The family will love the laid-back atmosphere and indoor/outdoor seating. For some quiet couples-only time, try dining at Alberto’s on Fifth Fine Italian Restaurant. Have an Iceberg Martini and some bruschetta for starters. Main courses like roasted sea scallops, freshly made pasta and delicious desserts like homemade gelato will have your taste buds singing.

After a busy day, relax in a suite, cottage or room at Naples Bay Resort Florida. With plenty of activities for the kids, nice pools and a lazy river, this is a great spot to end your day. Of course, there are hundreds of places to stay. Let the agents at Charter Travel help you find the perfect accommodations. They can also help to make dinner reservations, get tickets to attractions and more.

EXPLORING THE DEEP SOUTH

When you think of USA what comes to your mind? A well developed and advanced nation with state-of the- art technology and huge skyscrapers? Well, there is a lot more to USA other than the skyscrapers and advanced machineries. If you move to the southern part of the states, also known as the Deep South, you will encounter a completely different aspect of this wonderful country. These include the states of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Adjoining regions of East Texas, North Florida and the Florida Panhandle are also considered part of this sub region. Some other regions may also be included.

Deep South was called so because it differed from its northern counterpart which was dependent on plantation type of agriculture during the pre-civil war era. Deep South mainly produced cotton for its earnings. With the passage of time, of course, the usage fell into controversy and is mostly discontinued.

If you are planning a holiday to enjoy a nice quiet meal in a small town with fresh air and natural beauty and aiming for some sight-seeing and adventurous trips, the southern part of USA is a good choice. The cultural influences of the south will take your breath away by providing you a diversity that is rarely seen. This sub region was colonized by the Christians and later immigrants from South East Asia and North America added Hinduism, Buddhism and Jewish cultures. This is mainly an English speaking region with different vernaculars and people fond of growing and preparing different forms of tea.

Visit the following places while in the deeper south:

Visit Memphis

Memphis is one of the majestic cities that have a host of museums and tourist attractions like Hard rock café. Ever heard of Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding or the Staple Singers? The Stax museum is the world’s only soul museum with records of these classically original singers. It has seen the bankruptcy of Stax records, the deterioration of the building and finally it was restored into a museum. Memphis in May and Carnival Memphis are the summer festivities of this place and promote their musical and culinary heritage.

You can visit the internationally famous and now a US national heritage landmark, the Sun Studios, where artists like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Charlie Feathers, Ray Harris, Warren Smith, Charlie Rich, and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded in the mid-to-late 1950s. You can also visit the home of Elvis Presley, the Graceland, at the Elvis Presley Boulevard.

After visiting the museums and studios like a gentleman, it is time to become naughty at night. Beale Street is the ideal place to enjoy a night life full of food, music, lights and people with a lot of varieties of drinks that you can enjoy.

Visit Atlanta.

The most populous city in Deep South and the capital of Georgia offers what most cities in the Deep South cannot, an opportunity to hike for miles crossing thousands of feet and sections of jungles. The Appalachian trail, or A.T from Springer mountain to Maine is a world renowned choice for foot walkers. It provides a hiking experience that is unmatched in the entire southern USA with mesmerizing natural views and water bodies.

The Peabody hotel named after Peabody ducks is a luxurious historic hotel famous for the march of the celebrity ducks and celebrities who have stayed here. This hotel is an active epicenter for Cotton Carnival and Memphis in May during the festive season and a hub for weddings, balls, bar mitzvahs and prom parties.

The tour to Dollywood.

Dollywood, unlike Hollywood and Bollywood, is a theme park for amusement of families and children. From Rudolph reindeers to smoky mountains and Water Park to resorts, every activity that you can possibly enjoy in a theme park is right here.

Visit Nashville

Also dubbed music city is the home for the country music hall of fame, Grand Ole Opry. If you are a music aficionado, you must visit this place to satisfy your soul of visiting the holy birth place of great music.

Nashville has a lot of parks with artificial beauty embedded in the construction. One such example is the original replica of The Parthenon which is reconstructed to scale in the Centennial Park.

Visit New Orleans.

A port with a modest population and mix of cultures, New Orleans was named after the Duke of Orleans who influenced its European culture. Take a tour of the port by their famous steam boats which float the port at frequent intervals. The view of the city from the waters is breathtaking and completely different from what you would notice just being on the roads.

As you move to the state of Mississippi you will encounter a lot of mansions and gardens built in the pre-war era.

Visit Natchez.

Natchez is the oldest civilized settlement on the Mississippi River that is a central tourist attraction because of its mansions and parks. Some notable ones you may like to visit are the Auburn at Duncan Park, the Octagonal Longwood or Nutt’s Folly at Lower Woodville and the Greek revival architecture based, the Melrose. These designs portray a mix of older concepts with the modern technology.

Visit Tupelo

Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis hosting a lot of guitar and Elvis’ scriptures even today. The city has been hit the worst by natural disasters ranging from severe famines and droughts to tornadoes and yet has survived to showcase the life of Elvis Presley.

Visit Oxford

The oldest university that taught and promoted English, the Oxford University, got its name by virtue of being located in this epic city. The Radcliffe Camera is a building that was built to house the science library of Oxford University is a must watch especially from an architectural point of view since it is inspired by English Palladian style. It is situated inside the Oxford University campus.

Visit Cleveland

The skyline of Cleveland from Lake Erie gives view to the most amazing buildings, the Key Tower, the 200 Public Square and the Terminal tower. Cleveland is full of architectural beauties like the St Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral and the True Holiness Temple which serves as the congregation of African Americans.

The poor monkey lounge or Po’ Monkey’s lounge was once home to farmers who used to drink, rest and dance here. It is also known as one of the last juke joints of the south.

The mysterious Mississippi

Mississippi River is known for its steam boat cruises. The magnificent, multistoried steam boats give a view of the river as well as the cities and provide a whole new perspective to the Deep South. You will travel through the Mississippi, Ohio and Cumberland rivers experiencing the rich, diverse and rare American history and cultural heritage. You can choose the cruise route yourself from the various options available such as:

  • Lower Mississippi
  • Upper Mississippi
  • New Orleans round trip
  • The Ohio trip

These routes differ in spots covered and duration of the cruise. Be sure to pack accordingly before you set out into the horizon. You cannot cover everything that this sub region has to offer your senses in one trip. You have to cover as much as possible and to achieve that, researching your destinations is always helpful. Choose your destinations wisely keeping in mind the historical importance they carry, the variety they offer and the interest they tickle in you.

There is something for everyone at Yosemite

Located just a few hours east of San Francisco lies one of California’s most outstanding and beautiful national parks, Yosemite. Well known for its waterfalls, it is an outstanding area of nature where you will find great gulfs of forest, deep valleys, glaciers and ancient giant sequoias (which can live up to 3000 years old!). The tallest waterfall in North America is situated in the park, named Yosemite Falls. It has a stunning 2425 foot drop where it’s flow peaks in May.

It was Abraham Lincoln that acknowledged the fascination people had with the park and set legislation up to protect the park amid the civil war which is the reason it still stands today in its glory and refinement.

The History of Yosemite stretches way back to 500 million years ago and erosion and weathering continue today to create the many fascinating faces and facades of the park. The mountains are still said to grow at least one foot every 1000 years.

The trees of the park have been in existence since the beginning of history on the western world. For example, the Mariposa Grove’s Grizzly Giant tree is over 2700 years old.

Wildlife in the park includes Bears. Commonly cold Black Bears, statistically very few are actually black. You will more so find the bears range from brown to cinnamon and blond (of course, if you were to come face to face with one, I am sure the colour would be the least of your worries!). The golden eagle is a common sight along with the great grey owl. Deer, squirrels and sheep make up some of the other wildlife you could see in the park. There are statistically over 90 breeds of mammals in the park.

Within this beauty, there are many activities you can choose from. Whether you like to hike, climb, backpack, horse ride, bird watch or winter and water sport activities, there is something for everything here at Yosemite. So whether you do it in a day or take a few days out in the park staying at one of the Lodges (which is recommended), I challenge you not to be overwhelmed by the sheer vastness, tranquillity and elegance of the park. Its importance in nature cannot be underestimated and is firmly underlined by UNESCO and it’s classification of the park as a World Heritage Site.

Finally we have putting together a well thought out Yosemite itinerary which will include both California and Nevada as a memorable flydrive package holiday
